Overall Discount / Coupon code improvements

I think it would be great if the discount codes can be applied to only certain items in the store - perhaps by categories or even individual listings. It would also be cool to apply certain codes for certain $ amounts - like 10% off for orders under $50, 15% off from $50-99, 20% off for $100+, etc. Also perhaps there could be codes that apply to specific shoppers/email addresses for things like return customers and family. Lastly if there could be a manually set time frame for the codes to be applicable that would be awesome.

Admin comment: Not every item in this thread has been addressed, but we have added effective dates for discount codes. The rest of the changes will be considered for the future.

Would LOVE a one-time use coupon, and definitely would love to have tiers for percentage off. I do 10% off orders over such and such dollars all the time, but I have to rely on the honor system.

I was just going to add this one but saw it was already recommended! A one-time use coupon code, or one-time per customer use code would be AWESOME! Otherwise I have to write down each persons coupon code and mark if they can only use it once, then pay attention to when they finally use it so I can go back and delete it.

I would really love a way to have one time use coupon codes or once per customer coupon codes. I am giving a special coupon for testers to use on their first normal order but the only way to do it as a coupon code also allows anyone to use the code and lets people use it more than once.

A lot of big stores offer free shipping on orders of over $25, $40, or $100, and so on. I would like to be able to do that in my store. I think it would really boost sales. I would like for it to be something a buyer would not have to use a discount code for. Would this be possible?

I was coming here to suggest the ability to enable discount codes by category or even by item. This is a huge need for me. Expiration dates would be a bonus as well. Thanks!

LOVE everything about this suggestion--especially being able to add an expiration date for the code. That has become a HUGE problem in my store (I forget to delete a code, and/or customers reuse old codes or codes they were only supposed to use once).

I would love to have the option of putting an expiry date on discount codes...and a start time for special sales (ie: Black Friday). As it is now, I have to manually set the code when I want it to start and make sure I remove it when the sale is over. Thanks!

It would be nice if you could specify when a code could expire or after X many uses. At the moment if I want a code to only apply once (or until a certain time) I have to keep an inventory in excel and hope I remember to go back and delete the code right after it's used, which can't always happen.

Anyone who has tried to run a BOGO (buy one get one) style sale on HC knows that this is an extremely painful, manual invoicing or refunding process. But, shoppers LOVE these kinds of sales! It would be nice to have a coupon code specific for this type of sale. The shop admin would enter the % off on the BOGO-style code and the system would automatically calculate the percentage off on the lower-price item for each higher-price item sold.

Maybe there could be a feature to specify certain codes applying to certain items? Like how the stocking page has the delete and preview check boxes... maybe there could be the codes listed and the ability to check (one or more) boxes? It could resemble the stocking page but in the discount codes page.

This could get complicated. Because for the most part I do NOT want my customers to be able to use more than one code... it could frequently lead to me giving my merchandise away for less than cost.

Because I run a diaper service/retail store along side of my handmade items, there are times when 2 coupon codes would be nice. For example, say I am running a 15% off store wide sale, you would need to have a coupon code for the 15% off. But my local customers do not pay shipping, so I would need a code for free shipping, but as it is, only 1 can be used.
